April 10, 2012

Up at 4:45 this morning for a snorkeling trip. We drove about an hour West and had a picnic breakfast before we went out on the tour boat from the hotel. There were three of us and about 15 more other people on the boat, more than half were divers and some snorkelers. The boat took us from Ras As Sawadi where the hotel was to the Dimaniyyat Islands. They are big chunks of rock in the ocean, with no visible vegetation about an hour ride from the hotel. The captain took us from island to island where we had many chances to dive or snorkel. The coral is beautiful and the fish awesome. Blue with yellow fins, yellow with blue fins, big fish, little fish, sea turtles, large schools of fish, clown fish and a few non-people eating sharks …little friendly ones…vegetarian sharks.  We arrived back at the hotel at 3:00 and had a light lunch before returning home, a bit toasted where we missed the sunblock.
